Major Milestones
1834 - Church Began - The records do not show an actual organizational beginning date, but the church was a missionary church and meetings were held in the 1834 time period when Nashville on the Brazos was in existence.
1887 - Official Organization - In 1887 the Gause Episcopal Church South was organized with services being held in a wooden schoolhouse
1895 - Church Building Constructed - The congregation acquired a tract of land, and shortly thereafter the Methodists erected a simple frame structure that was the first church built in Gause.
1902 - The plat for the Town of Gause, which had been in use for years, was finally dedicated by deed and filed with Milam County.
1931 - New Building Constructed - Robert Hauptfleisch who was a carpenter volunteered and was accepted to build the new building in honor of his brother, Fritz, who had been active as a leader in the church for years and had died recently.
1933 - New Building Completed - As far as can be determined, the new building was completed in 1933.
1958 - The Dudley Varner Annex was completed and dedicated.
1990 - Foundation beams replaced and building re-leveled
1994, Oct 9th, GUMC was incorporated in the State of Texas
2007 - Pastor Kenneth Byrd began the Prayer Blanket Ministry
2013 - 2014 Restoration Project - We completed a major $250,000 project. A summary brochure of the project, along with some of the church history, was presented to the congregation at a Re-Dedication and Consecration Service on August 30, 2014. This was a huge undertaking for this church and it turned out to be a great example of God's blessings to us. If you are interested in the details, please see the brochure.
2015 - Fellowship Hall Exterior Makeover - We completed a repair project on the exterior of the Fellowship Hall Annex. The eaves were rotting in many places, plus the entire exterior was in need of paint. A contractor was hired to totally enclose the eaves, thus reducing the number of roosting birds and eliminating much of the rotting problem from water getting on the rafters and facia.
2015 - Bells & Chimes - Thanks to an anonymous donation, we added a bells and chimes system to the outside of our sanctuary. Using this system, we play various bell and chimes sounds from our church roof on Sunday mornings. These sounds emphasize the reverence of Sunday morning and they call attention to our Sunday School and Worship services. They can be heard for several blocks around our church.
2015 - Web Site - We have created our web site for the benefit of our members, friends, visitors, and community.
2015 - House Donation - Mr. Harry Alexander donated his old family home to our church. It is located across the street from the fellowship hall at the corner of FM 2095. The plans are to demolish the home which was badly deteriorated and beyond repair and clean the lot.
