Purpose: The board has authority, supervision, and oversight over/of the real, investment, personal property, and equipment of the church, including all that is acquired or owned by societies, committees, or church related groups. The board is in charge of maintenance, insurance coverage, use of facilities by outside groups, yard and flower bed care. Pastor is not a voting member. The board shall meet at least annually at the call of the Chair or the Pastor.
Decisions require a quorum of 50% + 1. For 2018 that means at least 6 must be present.
Serve as Christian stewards of property God has entrusted to the congregation.
Consult with the pastor and Council Chair about property matters as necessary
Exercise oversight and care of all local church property, buildings, and equipment to further the mission of the church.
Receive and administer all gifts made to the congregation and make certain that trust funds of the congregation are invested properly.
Ensure that the Articles of Incorporation of the congregation are kept up-to-date.
Annually review property, liability, and crime insurance coverage on church-owned property, buildings, and equipment. They also review personnel insurance for protection against risk and consult with the pastor-parish relations team about other personnel insurance.
Conduct an annual accessibility audit of buildings and grounds to discover and then work toward eliminating barriers that impede the full participation of all people.
Submits annual budget requests to the committee on finance for property maintenance and improvement and new property purchases as appropriate.
Trustees are accountable to the charge conference and the church council. The term “trustees” as used in The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church may be construed to be synonymous with “director of corporations” when required to comply with law.
Responsible for piano and organ maintenance and related expenses in coordination with pianist and/or organist.
Responsible for maintaining current Safe Sanctuary policies and ensuring all appropriate persons are trained as per the policy.
